What is Ethereum?
Ethereum is a decentralized platform based on blockchain technology that runs smart contracts: applications that run exactly as programmed without any possibility of downtime, censorship, fraud or third party interference.

What is Ether?
Ether (ETH) is the primary currency on the Ethereum network. Much like bitcoin (BTC), it is created by computerized mining.

Who created Ethereum?
Ethereum was proposed in late 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, a cryptocurrency researcher and programmer. Since then many people have contributed work to the project.

Ethereum Virtual Machine
The Ethereum Virtual Machine or EVM is the runtime environment for smart contracts in Ethereum. It is a sandboxed virtual stack machine embedded within each full Ethereum node, responsible for executing contract bytecode. Contracts are typically written in higher level languages, like Solidity, then compiled to EVM bytecode.
